Believe it or not, in an interview with MTV News, Tom Hiddleston revealed he was also up for the role of Thor. He also calls The Avengers "ginormous" but won't comment on The Skrulls.

Hiddleston also spoke to the Los Angeles Times about The Avengers and went on to talk about Joss Whedon's laugh. Here's a sample:

The brain power is astonishing and he's always giggling about something. He has this intermittently generous and supportive side as a director but I also think as an artist he has a really dark sense of humor. He kept telling me how much fun he had writing Loki. He steps inside the villains in a way that he doesn't with the heroes.

H&M and 'Dragon Tattoo' Costume Designer Team for Salander-Inspired Fashion Line [Video]

Is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo this year's Black Swan? Last year, the gorgeous ballet costumes of Darren Aronofsky's launched a thousand glossy fashion spreads and dance-inspired outfits; this year, it's David Fincher's crime thriller that seems to inspiring trends. Star Rooney Mara recently appeared on the cover of Vogue in a (no doubt insanely expensive) Ralph Lauren dress with a dragon design embroidered on the back, and now retail chain H&M is getting in on the Lisbeth Salander action as well.

The Swedish clothing company has teamed with Dragon Tattoo costume designer Trish Summerville for an upcoming line of pieces inspired by the character, such as beat up jeans, leather jackets, and defiantly slouchy hoodies. (You'll presumably have to get the tattoos, piercings, and unflattering haircuts elsewhere.) More details, including a photo and video of the collection, after the jump.

Apparently, this is what Salander might wear if she were more stylish:

[via Daily Mail]

Summerville says the clothes are "based on the essence of the Salander character," whom H&M designer Anna Norling calls "the very essence of an independent woman." The prickly computer hacker heroine of a dark, brutally violent series seems like an odd inspiration for a trendy fashion company — one imagines Salander would neither read Vogue nor shop at H&M. But outside of the context of Fincher's film, the clothing actually fits current trends pretty well. Actually, it's the kind of stuff I see hip young people wearing in my Brooklyn neighborhood on any given day. Who knew Salander was so fashion-forward in addition to being uncannily brilliant and tough as nails?

The capsule collection, which will be released under H&M's Divided brand, will first hit Parisian boutique Colette on November 28 before going on sale at 180 H&M stores worldwide and online December 14. Along with jeans, jackets, and hoodies, the 30-piece line will also include "knitted snoods, backpacks, tribal earrings… roughed-up leather boots and platform wedges" in no-nonsense shades of black, gray, white, and dark red, with prices ranging up to $199 (for a leather jacket).

Here's a video offering a glimpse of the line:

'Into the Abyss' Trailer: Werner Herzog Peers Into Life on Death Row

I imagine that most of our readers have strong feelings about the death penalty, one way or the other. It's not the sort of topic that leads to indifference. Whether you support or protest the right of a state to kill specific citizens that are convicted of heinous crimes, I expect there will be something in Werner Herzog's new movie to challenge your opinion. And what good is an opinion if it can't take a challenge?

Into the Abyss: A Tale of Life, a Tale of Death is a documentary that follows the stories of a few death row inmates in Texas. Herzog talks to the inmates, and to some of the officers who investigated their crimes, as well as others who are involved in the lives and crimes of these inmates. By many accounts the film is a very even-handed look at those sentenced to die, and I can't wait to see the film. After the controversy over the execution of Troy Davis here in Georgia, the film seems very timely. Check out a trailer below.

I love Roger Ebert's pullquote, about how Herzog always seems to know where to look. That's the crux of documentary filmmaking in a nutshell, and Herzog so often has his eye in the right place.

Apple has the HD trailer. Into the Abyss opens in a limited theatrical run on November 11.

Legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog (CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS, GRIZZLY MAN) returns with INTO THE ABYSS: A TALE OF DEATH, A TALE OF LIFE, a riveting examination of a horrible crime which probes the human psyche to explore why people kill–and why the state kills. In intimate conversations with those involved, including 28-year-old death row inmate Michael Perry (who was scheduled to die eight days after his interview with Herzog), the filmmaker achieves what he describes as "a gaze into the abyss of the human soul." As he's so often done before, Herzog's investigation unveils layers of humanity, making an enlightening trip out of ominous territory.

Sequel Bits: 'Lord of the Rings' Hobbit Reunion, Star Trek Sequel Not Called 'Star Trek 2,' 'Independence Day' Sequel Talk, 'Dark Knight Rises' Won't Occupy Wall Street

You'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't like one of the following four movies: The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, Independence Day or Batman. Odds are everyone likes at least one of those films (or film series), probably very passionately in fact. And if that's the case, you'll definitely want to hit the jump on this story. After the jump we've got information on the following:

  • Empire Magazine has an exclusive video of Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, Domenic Monaghan and Billy Boyd reuniting on the 10th anniversary of the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
  • Access Hollywood is reporting the sequel to J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek will not be simply called Star Trek 2.
  • Roland Emmerich is at it again, saying he's talked to Will Smith about coming back for Independence Day 2.
  • Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises won't film at Occupy Wall Street as production hits the Big Apple.

It's hard to believe a full decade is about to pass since the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Where were you when you saw that movie? Probably in a whole other place in your life. That's certainly the case for Elijah Wood (Frodo), Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee), Billy Boyd (Pippin) and Dominic Monaghan (Merry), the four hobbit stars of all three films. Wood is coming back for The Hobbit but Empire Magazine got the four of them back together for an article discussing the film on its 10 year anniversary. The full article will be in the new issue but here's a sneak peek video.

Zoe Saldana spoke to Access Hollywood at a recent Los Angeles event and confirmed not only her excitement to film the sequel to Star Trek, but that none of the cast have seen a script yet. The article then threw in an aside that the title won't be Star Trek 2. Not that we ever really thought it would be. Here's the excerpt:

"I know it's gonna be amazing. We still haven't gotten a script yet," she said of progress on the film, which Access has confirmed with a source will begin shooting in mid-January, and won't be called "Star Trek 2." "We're very excited to read it and get back into space."

Odds are it'll be some sort of subtitle just so Abrams and crew can keep with the Star Trek lexicon.

Next up, Roland Emmerich has probably been talking about doing a sequel for Independence Day since July 4, 1996. It's at a point where most people don't even ask him, especially with the huge amount of projects he already has on his plate. The question came up, however, in an interview with the Ohio State University college newspaper The Lantern and he said the script is being written and original cast members, including Will Smith, have been contacted:

We've talked to him, but naturally he wants to see a script, which I totally understand.

He then told the reporter to "hold tight. It's happening soon." Hold tight, but don't hold your breath on that one.

Finally, last week rumors spread that Christopher Nolan might use the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City as a backdrop for massive crowd scenes in The Dark Knight Rises. Not the case says Entertainment Weekly. They won't be shooting at that park at all.
