The /Filmcast: After Dark - Ep. 135 - Culturally Specific Films and the Decline of Film Audiences (GUESTS: You)

slashfilmcast550

The /Filmcast: After Dark is a recording of what happens right after The /Filmcast is over, when the kids have gone to bed and the guys feel free to speak whatever is on their minds. In other words, it's the leftover and disorganized ramblings, mindfarts, and brain diarrhea from The /Filmcast, all in one convenient audio file. In this episode, David Chen, Devindra Hardawar, and Adam Quigley take your phone calls and discuss films that need to be taken within a cultural context to succeed.

You can always e-mail us at slashfilmcast(AT)gmail(DOT)com, or call and leave a voicemail at 781-583-1993. We'll be back on Sunday (2/27) at Slashfilm's live page to discuss the Oscars.

31st Annual Razzie Award Winners

The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation have announced the "dis-hours" for the year in film that was 2010. M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender swept this year's awards, winning Worst Director, Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay and a brand-new category created for this year's awards — Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D. Jackson Rathbone also took home the award for Worst Supporting Actor for both Airbender and The Twilight Saga's Eclipse.

Read the full list of winners (or should I say losers?) in the press release after the jump.

Sequels, Remakes, and 3-D Rip-Offs Dominate 2010 RAZZIE® Award "Winners"

Voting members of The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation have sifted through the cinematic rubble of last year's Berry Worst Achievements in Film, and come up with the "winners" for The 31st Annual RAZZIE® Awards. Results are announced in satirical ceremonies held at Hollywood's Barnsdall Gallery Theatre at 7:30pm PST on Saturday, February 26, 2011 — the now traditional Night Before the Oscars®.

Not quite sweeping the ceremony, but still handily leading the pack among this year's RAZZIE choices is RAZZIE Repeat Offender M. Night Shyamalan's "re-imagining" of the faux-anime' TV series THE LAST AIRBENDER into a jumbled, jump-cut mess of a movie that fans of the TV show hated even more than critics did (if that's even possible!). In addition to Worst Director and Worst Picture, AIRBENDER also "won" Worst Screenplay, a brand-new RAZZIE category for 2010, Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D, and Worst Supporting Actor Jackson Rathbone (who had the misfortune to appear in both AIRBENDER and 2010's other most-RAZZIE-nominated title, TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE).

The other big "winner" (if that's the right term when speaking of these awards) was the bling-obsessed superslick chick flick SEX & THE CITY #2, which took gold-spray-painted statuettes for Worst Sequel, Worst Screen Ensemble (for its entire cast) and Worst Actress (presented jointly to the film's four principles, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis).

Rounding out the field of this year's sorriest cinematic losers were King of the Twittering Twits Ashton Kutcher as Worst Actor for both KILLERS and VALENTINE'S DAY, and Jessica Alba, finally "winning" a RAZZIE with her fifth nomination. Alba was named Worst Supporting Actress for her "performances" in four films, THE KILLER INSIDE ME, LITTLE FOCKERS, MACHETE and VALENTINE'S DAY. Links to all of the "winners" are on right side of this page.

The RAZZIES® were created in 1980 as a logical antidote to Tinsel Town's annual glut of self-congratulatory awards by John Wilson, author of The Official Razzie Movie Guide and Everything I Know I Learned at the Movies. "Winners" were determined by mailing ballots to 637 voters in 46 U.S. states and 17 foreign countries. Electronic voting and certification of this year's Final RAZZIE® Ballot was handled by Vote-Now.com. Among the sponsors of this year's awards are Kickbars.com and USObituariesOnline.com. The Barnsdall Gallery Theatre is a facility of the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

People Still Eat Fast Food After a Heart Attack

Despite having a heart attack many people go right back to fast food, says a new study, eating it at least once per week.

And while in the hospital, over 30% of study participants reported eating fast food once or more each week during the month before their heart attack.

Fast food contains high levels of fat and sodium. The Mayo Clinic recommends limiting saturated fat and salt to help reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.
