'Kung-Fu Panda 2′ TV Spot Offers New Footage

There has been one brief teaser trailer for Kung-Fu Panda 2 ("kung-fu staring contest!") that offered only a slight bit of actual footage. Now there is a TV spot that delivers a bit more. Check it out after the break.

This is pretty skimpy stuff, I know, but in the week between Christmas and New Year's, there's not a lot of new material out there. But this is a nice Jack Black refresher to help wash away the taste of Gulliver's Travels. Kung-Fu Panda was relatively fun, and now that the story is all established I'm hoping the sequel might provide a good dose of family-oriented martial arts entertainment before DreamWorks really begins milking the idea of stretching the series out into oblivion.

[via Latino Review]

The official website provides the following official plot synopsis:

Po is now living his dream as The Dragon Warrior, protecting the Valley of Peace alongside his friends and fellow kung fu masters, The Furious Five – Tigress, Crane, Mantis, Viper and Monkey. But Po's new life of awesomeness is threatened by the emergence of a formidable villain, who plans to use a secret, unstoppable weapon to conquer China and destroy kung fu. It is up to Po and The Furious Five to journey across China to face this threat and vanquish it. But how can Po stop a weapon that can stop kung fu? He must look to his past and uncover the secrets of his mysterious origins; only then will he be able to unlock the strength he needs to succeed.

Kung Fu Panda 2will be released in theaters on May 27th, 2011.

Chocolate Genetic Codes Cracked: Tastier Chocs Coming?

Been scoffing a few too many chocolates this Christmas? For many of us, the silky texture and sweet rich taste are almost irresistible. And now, chocolate may be set to become even tastier...

Scientists have decoded the DNA of fine cocoa, publishing their results in Nature. Fine cocoa is used in the production of luxury chocolates and is only used for a fraction of chocolate production. The Guardian explains:

Fine cocoa accounts for only 5% of world cocoa production because the trees are susceptible to disease and produce lower yields than other strains of cocoa tree.

Sundance 2011: 'Mad Bastards' Trailer

Writer/director Brendan Fletcher debut feature film Mad Bastards is set to premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The Australian film follows the story of "TJ's quest to find the son he's never known." The journey takes him "across the remote and stunning Kimberley landscape." Here is the official plot synopsis:

TJ is a mad bastard, and his estranged 13-year-old son Bullet is on the fast track to becoming one, too. After being turned away from his mother's house, TJ sets off across the country to the Kimberly region of northwestern Australia to make things right with his son. Grandpa Tex has lived a tough life, and now, as a local cop, he wants to change things for the men in his community. Crosscutting between three generations, Mad Bastards is a raw look at the journey to becoming a man and the personal transformation one must make. Developed with local Aboriginal communities and fueled by a local cast, Mad Bastards draws from the rich tradition of storytelling inherent in Indigenous life. Using music from legendary Broome musicians the Pigram Brothers, writer/director Brendan Fletcher poetically fuses the harsh realities of violence, healing, and family.

The movie stars Dean Daley-Jones, Greg Tait, Lucas Yeeda, Ngaire Pigram, John Watson, and Douglas Macale. It's a great title, and the movie looks like it could be a contender in the World Cinema Dramatic competition. Watch the trailer embedded after the jump, along with some production photos. Set Photos: 'X-Men First Class' and 'Captain America'

Yesterday we brought you a big lineup of rumored spoiler tidbits from X-Men: First Class. Now we've got a couple extra spy photos snapped on set. Some of them tie into one of the bits mentioned in that roundup, so if you're looking for more hints on how some parts of the film are going to play out, check after the break. Plus, there are new photos of the Captain America set, courtesy of a Dutch magazine.

First up: the X-Men: First Class pics. Taken in Georgia, these show a storyboard that appears to represent an action scene featuring Riptide (or possibly Havoc), crew scouting an aircraft hangar, and several shots from the beach scene where the team's jet crashes. The spy info from yesterday said that beach scene involves a conflict between the Blackbird and a submarine during the Cuban Missile Crisis. (And, yeah, they're fudging the Blackbird timeline a bit, as the SR-71 that the X-jet is based on wasn't in service until 1964, two years after the Cuban Missile Crisis. But this is a film about superhuman mutants, so I think we can forgive that deviation from reality.) [CBM]

And here are the Captain America pics, via full-page scans from the magazine Veronica. Most of the info in the page text is known already, but it does mention that twenty-five shields were made for the film, including a variety of models for different scenarios. One wasn't even a shield; it was a sort of green frisbee Chris Evans could throw, that will be replaced with the flying shield in post-production. [via The Chris Evans Blog and ComingSoon]
