Joss Whedon's popular short, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, starring Neil Patrick Harris, is set to make its TV premiere on the CW on October 9 at 9 p.m. Entertainment Weekly has the first promo for the show.

Emily Bronte's classic novel Wuthering Heights has been made and remade to death in all kinds of media. The latest, according to The Hollywood Reporter, will be called Napa and is being developed by Greg Berlanti. It's a modern take on the doomed love story that'll be set in California's famous wine district, Napa Valley. It's being written by Tom Donaghy.

The creator of Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes, spoke to The Daily Mail and said he has an idea for a prequel to his hit period drama:

I do have an idea of doing a prequel of the courtship between Robert and Cora. Cora was in love with him before they married but as we know he only fell in love with her about a year after they married. He married her purely for the money. I think that is something he came to feel quite guilty about.

Jason Katmis, the executive producer of Roswell, Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, is developing a TV version of Nick Hornby's book, About a Boy. Deadline broke the story on the show, which will be the second attempt at bringing the idea to the small screen. It was already a movie with Hugh Grant. The story revolves around a bachelor who befriends a lonely kid and his mother.

Comedian Patton Oswalt has been cast in the upcoming season of FX's Justified, according to TV Line. He'll be playing "Bob Sweeney, a local constable who went to high school with Raylan and has been hired by the lawman to watch Arlo's house."

The third season of The Walking Dead premieres October 14 on AMC and to say it's highly anticipated would be an understatement. AMC knows this and, to get everyone excited, they've produced four webisodes to whet your appetite before the premiere. Here's the first one below, called Cold Storage:

Variety reports that HBO is happy with the critical and commercial success of the third season of Boardwalk Empire and have renewed it for a fourth season.

As the summer movie season starts earlier and earlier in Hollywood, the MTV Movie Awards has to adapt. The major promotional show for the big summer blockbusters, which usually took place in June, has now been moved to April starting in 2013. Read more at Deadline.

Finally, Cinemax's action show Strike Back has been renewed for a third season. Deadline broke the news.

Elijah Wood Is 'The Late Bloomer' And Forms Genre Production Company

Elijah Wood fans have lots to be happy about today. First up, he's set to star in The Late Bloomer, the directorial debut of frequent Wilfred director Randall Einhorn, which tells the true story of a 30 year old man who goes through puberty in a matter of weeks. In addition, Wood has teamed up with Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller to form The Woodshed, an independent production label that'll produce and distrubute genre films.

The Late Bloomer is based on the memoir Man Made: A Memoir of My Body by Ken Baker and will be adapted by Joe Nussbaum, Paul Kaplan & Mark Torgove. Baker's book sounds like a high-concept comedy and, in fact, when I first read about it I thought it was that. But it's a true story. Around the age of 30, Baker realized he had a condition that stopped his body from going through puberty, had a procedure to remove it and went through the entire cycle in just a few weeks. You'd imagine, from the minds behind Wilfred, it'll be less serious and more funny but there's certainly some heart in there too. Filming is scheduled to begin in January and you can read the full press release at The Playlist.

Then there's The Woodshed, a company which Wood has co-founded to help facilitate quality genre films. Here's his quote from Deadline:

I've been a fan of horror and genre cinema in general since I was a child and have become increasingly passionate about the idea of there being a space in which horror films that take their subject matter and characters seriously could be produced. What was born out of a conversation of our mutual love for the genre and what we felt was lacking in a broad sense, especially from the U.S. market, became The Woodshed.

In the future, filmmakers Alex de la Iglesia (The Last Circus), Nimrod Antal (Predators) and Panos Cosmatos (Beyond The Black Rainbow) will be working with The Woodshed but, for now, they already have four films lined up:

Curse The Darkness, a socio-political zombie film scripted by Brandon Maurice Williams to shoot in February in Florida in partnership with Cinipix Films. Building on the research of anthropologist Wade Davis, the film takes a grounded approach to Haitian zombie practices to tackle immigration issues. Lawrence Inglee is also a co-producer.

Henley, a feature transfer of the 2012 Sundance short written by Clay McLeod Chapman and Craig Macneill. Macneill will direct and Noah Greenberg is producer as well as cinematographer. The film is described as an intimate portrait of a 9-year-old sociopath as he first discovers his taste for killing.

The Ivan Ford-scripted Harrow, to be directed by Keith Fulton and Lou Pepe (Lost In La Mancha, Brothers Of The Head) chronicles an unlikely friendship between an earnest female doctor and a shady photojournalist as they become trapped together in a town that has been quarantined as it experiences a number of disturbing paranormal events.

The Peter Charles Melman-scripted It Was Cruel, to be helmed by Shadow Of The Vampire's E. Elias Merhige. The film uses the horror genre to confront the spiritual corruption that many Jews were forced to accept in order to survive World War II.

That Elijah Wood is a busy guy, is he not?

Warner Bros. Will Release Tom Cruise Time-Bender 'All You Need Is Kill' in March 2014

Looks like Warner Bros. is really going to keep the title All You Need is Kill for the Doug Liman-directed sci-fi thriller starring Tom Cruise as a soldier who is killed during his first few minutes of battle, but finds himself reliving his last day over and over again. The common description for the film has been Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers, and though the script went through some rewrites to accommodate Cruise, that core idea remains the same. Sounds like Cruise starts off as an inexperienced officer (think Lt. Gorman, from Aliens) but becomes a hardened battle vet thanks to his looped final day.

Warner Bros. has now set a March 14, 2013 release date for the film, and we've got an updated synopsis and cast list below.

Here's the long synopsis:

The story unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world's armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.

The rest of the press release offers up some useful details, with confirmation of the cast as Cruise and Emily Blunt are joined by Bill Paxton, Jonas Armstrong (BBC TV's Robin Hood), Tony Way (Game of Thrones), Kick Gurry (Australian TV's Tangle), Franz Drameh (Attack the Block), Dragomir Mrsic (Snabba Cash II), and Charlotte Riley (World Without End).

Script credits go to Dante Harper, Christopher McQuarrie and Joby Harold, based on the novel All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

I really enjoyed one version of this script, as it had a video game approach to the looped day concept that worked really well on the page; I'm very curious to see how Liman manages to put it on film.
